Miniature Schnauzer
AKA: Zwergschnauzer
Description: The Miniature Schnauzer is a small but popular breed, but squarely-proportioned dog with long head, bushy beard, mustache and eyebrows and a well developed black nose and a scissors bite. They have an oval dark colored eyes with a thick and prominent eyebrows and long mustache that are often trimmed to emphasize its square cut shape. Naturally, their v-shaped ears fold forward or are cropped to a point and stand erect. The front legs are very straight with the tail usually docked. Their coat colors include salt & pepper, black, white or a harsh black & silver outer coat with a soft undercoat.
Temperament: This kind of breed, I very energetic, affectionate, and obedient. Moreover, Playful, happy loyal, alert, and likes children. Also a friendly dog. They are an excellent companion but, Zwergschnauzer demands time and companionship from its owner avoiding not to be alone. They are quick to learn because they are an intelligent breed. It is important for them to be socialize with other dogs earlier while they are still a puppy and be introduced properly but, they will not accept every dog that would come their way since their temperament is quite variable, select a puppy from parents whose temperament you enjoy. They make good companions and family pets. Schnauzers tend to bark a lot, but does not have an irritating bark. Its just like they are talking to you in a low carried out voice. They are a very good watch dog and a mouse catcher too.
Activity: The Miniature Schnauzer enjoys doing an exercise, most especially joining in some other family activities. An apartment life is good for them. Because they are active indoors and will do okay without a yard. They need a daily long brisks walks and love play sessions off the leash.
Grooming: This is very important to this breed their coat should be properly groomed to be in good condition. For good hygiene,his beard should be cleaned daily and make sure that the hair around his bottom is trimmed very well. Brushing the coat every week would be best for them as well. Schnauzers is a low shedder when properly groomed. For show dogs, the dead coat will need to be stripped every three months or so, or standard clipping can be used for pet dogs.
Health Problems: The life span of Miniature Schnauzer is around 12-14 years. The breed has a number of health problems : vWD, liver problems, cataracts, thyroid problems, inflammation of the pancreas, epilepsy, allergies, and skin problems.
